Advent as a Family

Advent is a huge opportunity for families to intentionally teach the real meaning of Christmas while preparing their hearts for Christmas Day.  There are some amazing resources you can purchase from Lifeway, Amazon or many other retailers and I’d love for you to borrow any of those I have in my office.  But I’m including some of the FREE resources I’ve found this month that everyone can utilize, no matter your schedule or routines.

  1. Here’s a 5-Day Advent Family Devotional that you can use that week leading up to Christmas 5-Day Advent Devotional
  2. Here’s a 5-Week Advent Family Devotional from AWANA (just 1 devotional per week) 5-Week Advent Devotional
  3. Here’s a 25 Characters of Advent Family Devotional from Lifeway that also allows you to sign up for their 22:6 Parenting Resources.  (note: the Advent guide is free but the subscription has a fee — all explained at the link) 25 Characters of Advent

I hope you enjoy whichever of these fits your family schedule!

Follow Your Shoebox

This is such a FUN opportunity for kids to see where their OCC shoebox will end up.  We hope you’re planning to attend the OCC Packing Party on Sun, Nov 11 @ 6pm in the Family Ministry Building.  If you’re interested in giving your family the chance to track a shoebox, you can FOLLOW THIS LINK to prepay for a special shipping label.  During payment, it requests your email to send you tracking information and then allows you to print out the label.  Bring this label to the party and affix it to one of the boxes your family packs.

(Check out the previous post for a link to suggested items to bring for shoeboxes)

This is another great opportunity to live out what it means to be a disciple of Christ.  This event is for the whole family and it has the ability to impact even the youngest child’s heart for mission.  You can bring more items for shoeboxes or just show up ready to pack what’s already been donated.  So join us at the Operation Christmas Child Packing Party on Sunday, Nov 11 @ 6pm in the Family Ministry Building.  If you need ideas for items to bring, CLICK HERE.
